Beata Kuraczycka

Poland-born BEATA KURACZYCKA’s work has increasingly taken the form of embroidery. Stretched on the typical embroidery hoops you may remember from your grandmother’s living room, these works challenge the white cube on multiple levels. By making use of both literary inspirations and drawing on the succinct, instant aesthetics of internet meme culture, Beata’s embroidery hoops create an uncomfortable tension between the supposedly “decorative” function of embroidery and the hoops’ unsettling, chaotic, even grotesque reverse sides.
